Perceptor story: Sadly, that was predictable. There were some nice moments. Pretty Drift is very, very Pretty. 8D~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also Springer is briefly hilarious. XDDD WTF, Blaster??? o.O

Will possibly post something more spoilerific once I've had time to digest. Because there's kind of a lot going on... O.O


Aaaaaaand I haven't finished tonight's chapter yet. Urgh. Groundwork is laid for the handful of things not written, I just have to prune and get all the slagging transitions in. And figure out what the rest of the argument is...just enough to make it worth putting in there, because structurally I need something there. ::gnashes::
I was distracted this afternoon by the arrival of #15...I thought I'd let myself read it as a reward for finishing the chapter. Yeah, right.

I ranted to myself in notes - this is mostly my opinions of what I perceive as the more general, i.e. fanboy reaction to AHM, and the Kup and Perceptor stories in Coda.

Prowl is Cassandra/Faramir.
Fanboys just like seeing the disciplinarian get punched.

Steerpike teaches us manipulation and murder are cool. Fangirls think so too. =_=
How much control? Direct vs indirect.
Overarching change is bad, upgrades are bad, they aren't robots, are they... aka body mods are sketchy, psychological mods are way not cool.
When the Bots find out - and they will, someone won't be able to resist - they're going to burn him at the stake.
Did Perceptor put them in or not? Strictly from the comic there is some question. According to the wiki, he did. I'm guessing we are supposed to assume he did. I think Kinrazza is sharp for having seen this as questionable.
IDW!Ironhide is a thug.
I don't like IDW!Prime either. He's cold and uninvolved, removed. Despite what the writers tell us, they show very little. This Prime depends very heavily on characterization holding over from the G1 cartoon. (The G1 Marvel comic Prime is little better, if more principled.)
I disagree with Prowl picking on Ratchet - though arguably the kids, ESPECIALLY HUNTER OMG, would have been better off not getting involved. But Ratchet at least does what he does out of compassion and in an attempt to avoid harm to others. Even when he is unsuccessful. But the rest on Prowl's list are legit enough. Personal bias much? XD
Grimlock! Biggest jerk in the entire franchise, yet we're supposed to wuv him sooooo much.
Some people always root for the ninjas. I will root for the Vulcans, or the Faramirs.
I like the gallant G1 cartoon Springer, but the IDW!Springer has quite an asshole coefficient.
So, Prowl pits himself against the entire Autobot contingent (in addition to standing against the Cons, btw), and guess what; it takes all of them to balance the scales! HA!
Springer's first reaction, pg 1 - who're we supposed to sympathize with, here?
Agree with Kinrazza re the anti-smoking thing. Ooo, cy-gar, so original, so different in pronunciation that the word cigar is incomprehensible! ::eyeroll::

Calculating "achievable victory" - they're probably modeling Prowl on some Nazi or Communist strategist. Like they do.
Prowl's problem is his emotional detachment, which you'd think he'd compensate for better? If you knew Springer was going to hit you, why didn't you duck? Maybe Springer and Ironhide are just that much better than him physically, so he figures he might as well take the hit rather than annoy them further by dodging?
So there's more to the subroutines than Perce is supposed to know. Did Perce catch that? He's not entirely dim, you know. Did he put them in or not? If not, how do we know the whole AHM mess wasn't made worse? If he did put them in, then Prowl was wrong, it didn't help.
Prowl wants to score with Prime all right. Points! I mean score points with!
Like Snape vs the male Potters - hates that the golden boys get to break the rules and are celebrated. The ends justify the means because the golden boys are attractive, emotionally demonstrative and engaged.
Warrior Prime - in Armada (and Energon) also. I'm less impressed with this take on him, but that's this continuity. Red-blooded, two-fisted America, even when penned by a Brit. Hm, Simon, what have you been up to?
"You won't even see my lips move." Great line, but I think people are taking this to mean Prowl will have direct control over Kup. I kind of think not, but I guess we'll find out. (As long as IDW stays solvent.)
The Cons act as one??? To an observer from the outside, maybe? They do on the battlefield, I guess, despite all the internal egoism and backbiting. They fight more efficiently because otherwise Megs'll clobber 'em. Negative reinforcement.
So we're not supposed to like or trust someone who doesn't want leadership or adulation. He prefers to work behind the camera/scenes - in the shadows - because dark, black = bad and light, white = good. He is sinister (ha!) by default. =_=
He solely wants to win the war - ends and means again. What I would ask is, OK, if you win, what will you do then? Or do you not expect to personally survive? (Of course he wants secrecy - they'll kill him for this.)
Sunny hands our planet and the Bots over to the Cons, but everyone's going to hate Prowl sooooo much more for this. Grrr.

Re Kup - yes, I'm also oO.Oo Kuuuuuup!!! Now we have to examine everything he does. He was pretty much SOL, though...

This notion of debt is odd. Perhaps they mean bonds of connectedness and reciprocity rather than economics. Maybe Perce and Drift have had some interesting...talks...
We are meant to feel disturbed by Perceptor's change because his personality seems to have changed - there's that pesky emotional detachment again.
Thing is, how often are we going to see characterization at all, unless it's convenient to the story/plot?
At least Beachcomber's fate is still unknown. (Perceptor is the most unwarlike???? Wut? Maybe in IDW!verse?)

And how much of this is Perce's reaction against what Prowl ordered him to do?
Now that Perce can shoot good he doesn't have to "play medic"? Now Blaster gets the demotion? Well, we know what gives Kup a hard-on, don't we. o.O
